There've been a few attempts at this (Transformizer, and Envy, being the biggest examples I can think of) but I've never found one that works the way I want. Throw on some headphones, flip over to your secondary playhead/timeline, and do what you need to do before the master playhead/timeline hits that point. Would also be helpful if you're playing back a mix for a client, and a minute in you think "Oh shit I didnt fix xyz at the end". So if I need to hear the edits I've made, but we're still in record, I can switch over to a second set out outputs in the control room and hear what I've done without affecting the actors headphones. Where you could have your "record edit" playhead/timeline output to a separate output. I'd love to be able to edit a file thats currently still in record, but also hear my edits while still recording if I need to. So say we're in the middle of a super long take but you've been dropping markers to clean up later and you know where everything needs to go. The feature would be editing a file that currently still recording. And I've been doing it so long that I can usually edit a few minutes worth of dialogue without even listening to it (always check your edits though kids haha). Over the years I've come up with a system for dropping markers wherever an actor stops and does a pickup. Recording voiceover is a big part of my job.
